Founder – Convergence Mediation and Atkins Law Group
Jeffrey R. Atkins is the founder of Convergence Mediation and brings more than 30 years of litigation and trial experience to the mediation process. Mr. Atkins was a founding partner of Atkins & Markoff Law Firm, where he practiced for 25 years as the lead litigator. He founded Atkins Law Group in 2022 and has recently shifted his practice toward mediation, with an intentionally reduced litigation caseload to ensure availability.
Early in his career, Mr. Atkins handled medical malpractice and general insurance defense matters. For the last three decades, however, his practice has been centered primarily on representing plaintiffs in personal injury and wrongful death litigation, with a focus on litigated serious injury and death cases.
Mr. Atkins has extensive experience evaluating liability, causation, damages, risk, and jury appeal in high-exposure cases. His case experience spans personal injury and general liability matters of nearly every kind, including premises liability, medical malpractice, nursing home negligence, automobile and trucking collision cases, other complex injury disputes, and automobile-dealer commercial and consumer claims. His work has included substantial pretrial preparation, including extensive written discovery, motion and briefing practice, and hundreds of depositions of both lay and expert witnesses, along with significant mediation and arbitration experience. He has first-chaired plaintiff and defense personal injury trials with great success.
In addition to his plaintiff-side trial practice, Mr. Atkins has also represented automobile dealers and the Oklahoma Automobile Dealers Association for more than 30 years on corporate, regulatory, compliance, legislative, claims, and litigated matters. This combination of plaintiff- and defense-side experience helps him bring a broader, more neutral perspective to mediation and a better understanding of how parties, insurers, and counsel evaluate exposure and settlement value.
To further refine his mediation skills and support a professional, efficient process, Mr. Atkins has completed mediation training through the world-renowned Pepperdine University Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution.
Mr. Atkins is an Oklahoma native. He earned his undergraduate degree in Business Administration from the University of Central Oklahoma (1990), where he was a four-year member of the golf team, and his J.D. from the University of Oklahoma College of Law (1993). He is admitted to practice in all state and federal courts in Oklahoma. Mr. Atkins has been recognized as an Oklahoma Super Lawyer (Personal Injury) for more than 15 years and is rated AV Preeminent by Martindale-Hubbell.
